The 25^th Chinese University Student Fencing Championship took place in Xiamen University from November 20^th to November 27^th. Yunzong Bai, our fellow student from SME, Shaw College, 2019 Cohort, competed with multiple extremely capable fencers, ultimately winning the bronze medal of the men’s sabre individual after much effort and hardships.

The Chinese University Student Fencing Championship is the topmost fencing competition for the community with outstanding fencing athletes from all over the country participating and competing drastically in the event. Yunzong Bai went to Xiamen alone on behalf of the CUHKSZ Fencing Team to take part in the championship, which is a first time for the team.

Before joining the CUHKSZ Fencing Team, Yunzong Bai was a member of Zhenchuan Middle School Fencing Team of Jiading District, Shanghai. The event he trains on is men’s sabre, the event most demanding on reaction and speed in fencing.

 This championship is also the first time he took part in a competition without a coach or teammates. “The reason I love fencing is that it’s not just a competition between athletes’ physical fitness, but also one between fencing techniques, tactics and their psychological quality under great pressure.” says Bai.
