On the evening of November 28th, a lively and highly interactive social common-sense lecture was presented by Security Management Department Manager LinJinhua.
Lu Bolin from the Student Union's Academic Department served as the host for this lecture, starting with everyday market language, which was both interesting and vivid, as if you were stepping into a bustling market, immersed in a vibrant scene.

Manager Lin approached the lecture topicin a relaxed and entertaining chat, discussing how to select ingredients when entering the market.Thelecture wasdivided into three parts: market food selection skills and methods, on-site food selection experience sharing, and a discussion on the differences between canteen food preparation and daily family grocery shopping.

 

Part l Market Food Selection Skills and Methods

 

Initial learning of sensory classes, from the "observation, listening, inquiry, and palpation"of poultry and meat, to the freshness judgment techniques of aquatic products, and then to the purchasing guide
for vegetables, bean products, and dried goods, each item is an essential life skill!
Manager Lin provided a detailed discussion on the"observation, listening, inquiry, and palpation"of poultry and meat, observing color and stamps, smelling from 30cm away, pressing to observe the rebound, which can be said to be full of practical tips!

 

Part2 On-site Food Selection Experience Sharing

 

The on-siteexperiencepracticewas the mostexciting part.Students were eager to try, surrounding the area where ingredients were displayed in the first two rows, and the small classroom was instantly filled with laughter and joy.

 

 

The most interesting part was the watermelon bidding segment,where students made guesses based on their existing knowledge, and finally, Manager Lin revealed the secrets:
watermelons with balanced and wide stripes, curved vines, yellow sides,smalland round stems,and a crisp sound when tapped are the best quality.

In addition, he also introduced the observation method for eggs, using hand shaking and light observation of the round spot to judge the freshness of the eggs.

 

Part 3 A Discussion on the Differences between Canteen Food Preparation and Daily Family Grocery Shopping

 

Manager Lin introduced us to the important aspects ofcanteenfoodpreparation, allowing us to better understand food safety.

Finally,students also tasted the bid watermelon sand actively offered suggestions for improving the canteen to Manager Lin and the chefs.
